Our project provides investors with exposure to minerals which are essential to everyday life

Our project provides investors with exposure to critical resources in short supply.

What Are Heavy Mineral Sands?

Heavy mineral sands are naturally occurring deposits formed when waves and currents concentrate dense, durable minerals along beaches and coastal plains. These deposits contain valuable industrial minerals such as ilmenite, rutile, zircon, and garnet, which are extracted and processed into raw materials essential for manufacturing and high-tech industries.

Sri Lanka is rich in heavy mineral sands, particularly along its eastern coastal regions where the Taprobane Minerals Project is located.

Our Key Minerals and Their Uses

Ilmenite

FeTiO₃

Ilmenite is the most abundant titanium-bearing mineral and the primary source of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) — a bright white pigment used in paints, plastics, paper, and coatings. It also serves as feedstock for titanium metal, used in aerospace, medical devices, and chemical processing due to its strength and corrosion resistance.

Rutile

TiO₂

Rutile contains a higher concentration of titanium dioxide and is prized for its purity. It is used directly in the production of white pigments and in titanium metal manufacture. Rutile is also used in welding electrodes and as a flux in ceramics and glassmaking.

Zircon

ZrSiO₄

Zircon is valued for its heat resistance and stability. It is a key material in the ceramics industry, used in tiles, sanitaryware, and glazes to provide strength and opacity. It is also processed into zirconia (ZrO₂), used in refractories, precision casting, and advanced ceramics, as well as in the nuclear industry for zirconium metal.

Garnet

Group of Silicate Minerals

In addition to titanium minerals and zircon, the Taprobane Minerals Project has premium quality garnet. Garnet is a natural industrial abrasive. Its hardness and clean fracturing make it ideal for water-jet cutting, sandblasting, and abrasive papers.
